Foundations: Understanding and using the marker
This programme starts with a 30 minute discussion via video conference where we work on understanding the reward marker: how to implement it cleanly and clearly, and why it is such a powerful method of communicating with our dogs. Of course all dogs are different, and so as part of our session we will discuss how we might tweak the method for your particular dog(s). In most cases we might use a sound or a word as our marker, but for deaf dogs we might use a thumbs up or a flash light. Some people struggle if their dogs are just too fast, or very slow, so we can look at that too.
For your continuation, I recommend doing three short play* sessions a day, no more than five minutes each. Use a phone camera stand and video the game with your dog. Send me one video after the first day, and another after the third day, so I can see how things are going and whether you need any extra tweaks or support, which I will return in written email format.
If you would like to participate in our soon to be released ‘Earn your stripes’ or ‘Training Goals’ programmes, don’t forget to sign up to our news letter and keep up the the training!
You will also get a chart you can laminate and put on the fridge door with magnets to monitor your progress.
(This will very shortly be available to order pre laminated).
Cost: £40 including print-it-yourself progress chart.
Drills for life: 'Resource Guarding'
This will start with a 40 minute virtual discussion which is built on top of our foundation plans.
If you have been working on the pre-plan and foundations programme, where we work on understanding the reward marker, then this is a follow on stage. If you are at all unsure about the strength of your foundation training, I would recommend that you start with this first. Our training plans are all about co-operative teamwork whereby not only do we work on your goals and missions, but we have the dog on board and wanting to be part of the conversation too!
In this session we will look at your unique situations: who comes in and out of your environment; the layout of your home and what barriers you can realistically put in place to prevent problems occurring while we work on building and strengthening our drills. This will also include a progress chart so that you can monitor your daily progression.
For your continuation, I recommend doing three short play* sessions a day, no more than five to ten minutes each, followed by a quick game of ball or tuggy with your dog. Use a phone camera stand and video the game with your dog. Send me one video after the first day, and another after the third day, so I can see how things are going and whether you need any extra tweaks or support, which I will return in written email format.
If at the end of the week you have managed to maintain daily practice, we can look at follow up with an advance plan for continued progression, and build on your ‘Training Goals’.
Cost: £65 including print-it-yourself progress chart.
